Heather was born in Coleshill in the West Midlands in 1971 and has one brother. Her parents recognized her interest in music at an early age, and encouraged her to attend private lessons in two particular fields of musicianship, the flute and the organ.
Although a reasonable flautist, it was Heathers organ and music theory skills that interested her the most, and at a relatively young age, was sitting exams and performing organ duets with her brother as well as on her own, in clubs and pubs up and down the Midlands.
In 1986 at the tender age of 15, Heather joined her first band, an already established act called Monopoly. It was at this time Heather felt she needed to move away from traditional keyboard techniques, and get into the modern day sounds of synths and other keyboards, which she did successfully.
Heathers duration with the band included performances with named stars such as Bernard Manning, The Fortunes, The Foundations and Showaddywaddy. Heather was also involved in the making of two albums with the band as well as performing on TV talent show Opportunity Knocks.
In 1996 when Monopoly had done all they thought they could, and clubs in general were moving towards the smaller outfits, the band parted and went separate ways.
Heather who married David, one of the original members with Monopoly, wanted to continue in the business, and so they both agreed to form a smaller act and it was in 1996 Designer were formed.

David was born in Birmingham in 1962 and as part of a musical family has had an interest in music, singing and playing instruments for as long as he can remember.
He is self-taught on the many instruments he is able to play, and has performed in Folk Groups, Rock Bands, Club Bands, Orchestras and even Marching Bands.
He started his musical career well before he reached his teens, and before the age of 15, had played various brass instruments, drums and percussion, and was honoured to have performed in a championship marching band, and had performed trumpet and bugle Solo's at places like the Royal Albert Hall and Alexandras Palace in London.
It was in the late seventies and a friend of Folk Music Celebrity Malcolm Stent, David and a few of his own close friends took a liking to traditional and contemporary Folk Music, They purchased instruments including accoustic guitars, a banjo, tin whistle, a shovel (another story) and a double bass, learnt how to play, sing and harmonize, and formed a Folk Group called KELLYWOOD.
They done well in this field, had one album produced, appeared regularly on Folk related radio shows, and where proud to be awarded the post of resident group and compares for a short while, at Jasper Carrotts famous club "The Boggery".
Whilst still at school and in his teens David along with one member of the group then went on to form a "Simon & Garfunkle" type accoustic guitar duo, and were awarded a resident spot at "The Celebrity Restaurant" in Birmingham, performing to TV and Theatre Celebrities who dined there most nights of the week.
Shortly after came the electric years, drums where added, electric bass guitar, keys etc., and there was a big change in the musical direction and material performed. This is when 5 piece band MONOPOLY where formed.
David was one of the founder members of the band MONOPOLY, and this is where he met Heather, and as its been said before, Designer were formed.
It is worth mentioning David and Heather's former band Monopoly. They were an extremely well-known band in the clubs in the 80's and 90's.
